The South Atlantic SIG was formed in October 2006.

It was a fusion of my interest in the Falklands Conflict of 1982, (revived somewhat by reading the book Through Fire and Water - HMS Ardent:The Forgotten Frigate of the Falklands) and my new interest in modelling. I soon realised that there was was no Special Interest Group within IPMS(UK) that covered the conflict and, as the 25th Anniversary was coming in 2007, I set out to create one. With the support of members of IPMS, the South Atlantic SIG was born with interest in events in the the South Atlantic area, including Ascension Island; St Helena and Tristan da Cunha; the Falkland Islands; South Georgia and also the British Antarctic Territory.

Our first display was a small one at Scale Model World 2006 in Telford. By 2007 we were able to put together a full display to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the Falklands Conflict. This was exhibited at several model shows around the UK culminating with the 'big one' at SMW 2007.

Since then we have covered themes such as 'Aviation in the Falkland Islands' and 'WW2 in the South Atlantic'.

See the Events page for the places and dates that the SIG will be displaying.

Visit the Showcase galleries to see some of our work.

Membership of the SIG is free, though if you want newsletters posted to you then please send four stamped addressed envelopes for the year.
