About me: I am an Assistant Professor at the University of Waterloo. Previously, I was an Instructor and NSF postdoc at Princeton, supervised by Maria Chudnovsky. Before that, I was an NSF postdoc at Rutgers, supervised by Jeff Kahn. I received my PhD from Princeton University, where my advisers were Maria Chudnovsky and Paul Seymour. Most of my papers are available on arXiv or Google Scholar (and in the research tab of this page). My CV is available here (updated May 2023).

Pronouns: she/her or they/them

Name pronunciation: I am not picky, so please do not stress about it. If you want to learn the German pronunciation of "Spirkl," start with the English word "sparkle". Replace the "sp" sound with "shp" and replace the "ah" sound with "uh." That's it! For my first name, "Zophie" (with a soft "s" sound).

A new diamond open-access journal in graph theory: Innovations in Graph Theory. Accepting submissions now!

My spouse Logan Crew is a Research Assistant Professor at the University of Waterloo.

A recent article about Erdos-Hajnal for C5 in Quanta magazine. I was awarded a 2023 Sloan fellowship

I am a coordinator of the Women in Math Directed Reading Program, an opportunity open to graduate students (all Waterloo math grad students) and undergraduate students (women and certain other underrepresented groups only). Feel free to email me with questions!
