Sophie Moinas is a Professor of Finance at the T Toulouse Capitole University (Toulouse School of Management and Toulouse School of Economics). She received her PhD from HEC Paris in 2005. Her research spans market microstructure (fragmentation, high-frequency trading, and transparency), experimental and behavioral finance (bubbles and asset pricing), sustainable finance, and electricity markets.
Her work has appeared in leading journals, including Econometrica, the Journal of Financial Economics, the Review of Financial Studies, and Management Science. Notable contributions include "Equilibrium Fast Trading" (with Bruno Biais and Thierry Foucault) and "The Bubble Game: An Experimental Study of Speculation" (with Sébastien Pouget). Her research has received several awards, including the Joseph de la Vega Prize from the Federation of European Stock Exchanges, the Best Young Researcher in Finance award from the Institut Europlace de Finance, and the 2025 Eurofidai Best Paper Award. She was appointed Senior Member of the Institut Universitaire de France in 2025. She is an associate editor of Management Science, the Journal of Financial Markets and the Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization.
She contributes to policy-oriented research and regulatory dialogue: she sits on several advisory boards, including the Advisory Committee of the French prudential supervisor (ACPR), a Consultative Working Group of ESMA's Risk Standing Committee, and the Council of Advisers for Applied Research of the Hong Kong Institute for Monetary and Financial Research (HKMA). She also co-coordinates the "Risk, Regulation, Systemic Risk" research initiative under the aegis of the ACPR and the Fondation du Risque. She previously directed TSE's Sustainable Finance Center (2019–2023).
