Biography

Sophia Chen is a Deputy Division Chief at the International Monetary Fund and Associate Editor of the IMF Economic Review.

Her research spans monetary policy, financial systems, and macro-financial linkages, with an emphasis on issues central to macroeconomic policy and financial stability. Her work has been published in leading academic journals and policy-oriented outlets, earning recognition such as the Journal of Financial Intermediation Best Paper Award.

At the IMF, she has led a range of analytical and policy initiatives, and has extensive experience with country and regional economic issues across Europe, Latin America, and the Caribbean. She has contributed to flagship publications, including the World Economic Outlook, Regional Economic Outlook, Finance & Development. She previously served as the guest editor of the IMF Research Perspective, an award-winning publication.

She received her Ph.D. and M.A. in economics from the University of Michigan. She holds an M.L.A. from the University of Pennsylvania, and a B.Arch. from Tsinghua University.
