Dr. Somnuk Phon-Amnuaisuk is a Professor of Creative Computing at the School of Computing & Informatics, Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB, 2013- Feb 2025). Prior to joining UTB he was an Associate Professor at the Department of Multimedia Design and Animation, Faculty of Creative Industries, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR, 2010-2013 ), Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia. Prior to joining UTAR, he was a senior lecturer and an Associate Dean at the IT Faculty of Multimedia University, Cyberjaya, Malaysia (MMU, 2002-2010).
Somnuk is responsible for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses. He also supervises undergraduate student projects and graduate research projects. He initiated the Media Informatics Special Interest Group (MI6) and the International Neural Network Society (INNS) Brunei chapter. He serves as a reviewer and an editorial board member for international journals. He is also actively involved as a committee member in many local/international conferences.
Somnuk received his Ph.D. from Edinburgh University in Artificial Intelligence (2001), under the supervision of Prof. Alan Smaill and Prof. Geraint Wiggins. He obtained a Music certificate from Open Learning (Edinburgh University). He also completed his M.Sc course from Edinburgh University in 1997 which was then converted to a part of his Ph.D. there. Somnuk earned a Master's in Management Degree from Sasin Graduate School, Chulalongkorn University, and a Bachelor's in Engineering Degree from King Mongkut Institute of Technology, Ladkrabang, (KMITL, รุ่น๑๙), Thailand.
