Recommended Settings for Optimal Experience
Before you begin using the SOM Analyzer, you should pay attention to the following:
The font size used by the SOM Analyzer in displaying the SOM parameter name and visualization name information on its main screen is very small. Therefore, for best legibility, it is recommended that you switch to use the Windows ClearType in your display settings unless you already do so. On XP, you can switch to ClearType by right clicking on your desktop and then clicking Properties Appearance Effects Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts: ClearType. With Windows 7, just open the control panel and search for 'Clear Type'. You should get Display – Adjust ClearType text. In there, check the setting 'Turn On ClearType'.
On XP, some SOM Analyzer UI components use bitmap backgrounds that will not display correctly when using the Windows Classic display style. In order to enjoy the SOM Analyzer UI to the fullest, it is recommended that you switch to use the Windows XP style. You can switch to XP style by right clicking on your desktop and then clicking Properties Appearance Windows and buttons: Windows XP style.
If available, use high screen resolution settings. This way, you can get most out of the SOM visualizations.
Database Support
SOM Analyzer supports MySQL databases. Along with data selection dialogs, you see buttons via which you can access data in the database. If you get an exception when trying to connect or use a database, make sure you have a NET connector installed. If you don't have one, it is free and easy to install. So, go ahead and click here.
Problems starting SOM Analyzer?
It may be that you experience a crash after attempting to start SOM Analyzer. This problem has been reported to happen with some Windows 7 systems not having the required Microsoft runtime libraries. To resolve this, proceed to install either of the following Microsoft packages:
When done, try to start SOM Analyzer again. It should now start without problems.
