Department of Sociology (Government College Kota - Raj.)
The Department is one of the foremost centre of Sociology teaching and Research in Hadoti Region of Rajasthan. It started in 1971 with U.G. And P.G. Programs of study with about 150 students. Dr. Brijesh Saxena was the founding faculty member.
Over a period of four decades, the department has grown many fold in terms of students strength and faculty positions.
Presently, about 2200 students are enrolled with the department. The department has a rich pool of erudite faculty with diverse research backgrounds and prestigious alma matter. The Department organizes many co-curricular activities like seminars, workshops and extension lectures. Growing number of students is evidence of the growing interest in the subject.
In order to enhance the capabilities, skills and confidence of students, the department regularly organizes talks, presentations and seminars. The Department has recently organized XVIII Rajasthan Sociological Association National Conference on 10-11 October, 2011 on Social Transformation in Rajasthan, which was well participated by acclaimed sociologist from all over India. A two days National workshop on "Contemporary Sociology in India: Theory, Research and Practice" was organized with the assistance of UGC on 5-6 November, 2012.
