Civil War Burials

Civil War Burials

In Lawnside there are three burial locations, Mt. Peace Cemetery, Mt. Pisgah AME Church and Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. There are at least 150 Civil War Soldiers and Sailors buried in these locations.

We visited each location to mark the GPS location, transcribe and, photograph each headstone. This information was added to Google Earth to create maps.

There are three components to this project which are represented by web pages on this site.

    • Burial Locations: Go to this page to view each of the burial locations and navigate to their individual pages. Each page contains links to maps, headstones and photographs. Additionally, view the names of Civil War burials in the particular location.

    • Maps of Burials: Go to this page to view available maps of burials and burial locations. The burial maps show headstones and the burial location maps show pictures of the location.

    • Photographs: Go to this page to view links to all available photographs. These photographs are contained in Google's Picassa Web Albums.

Eventually we will collect additional genealogical records that will fill-in the personal lives of each soldier and sailor.

This research was greatly enhanced using the information compiled by Lloyd A. Romero and Bryson C. Armstead, Jr. Trustees of the Mt. Peace Cemetery Association and Samuel Asbell’s Lost Black Legion A Search For the Soldiers and Sailors from the Civil War in Camden County, NJ.
