Small Mouth Noises is an open-access, English-language electronic journal, dedicated to language, mind, philosophy, technology and their various intersections. It is inspired by the life and work of philosopher Terence McKenna and seeks to continue, revisit in a modern context, further develop or revise where necessary his ideas and insights as regards our chosen subject matter.
We publish submissions that match the Journal's scope and share its vantage point and inspiration. Anyone interested is invited to submit a scholarly article or academic paper (see more in the Submit section) for review and possible publication. We do not require that all manuscripts sent to us should draw heavily on McKenna's work per se, but prospective authors must certainly be familiar with it in order to know where we are coming from.
It is our conviction that there is nothing short of a paradigmatic revolution that awaits our understanding of ourselves and the universe, stemming from a reevaluation of the relationship between mind and matter, as well as information and physical structure. We also anticipate significant advances in how most of us regard consciousness and ancient meditative wisdom in the light of modern science, which will reshape public and professional models of consensus reality. Our wish is to be a small but important instrument in bringing about these looming intellectual changes, while striving to be aided rather than blinded by our ever-virtualizing technology in the process. We also hope to contribute to all relevant areas of philosophy, science, linguistics and the human imagination, arriving at a picture of how we see ourselves and the world that is, more that ever, true enough.
