Before joining Mason as a faculty member, I spent two years as a postdoc at Rutgers, hosted by Ping Li. I did my PhD in the Machine Learning Group at Saarland University, Germany, as a member of one of the prime graduate schools in Computer Science in Europe with more than 75 faculty and 300 PhDs. Even before that, I obtained a diploma (comparable to BSc + MSc + PhD level coursework) in Statistics at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universitaet Muenchen.
My CV is available here.

Research Interests: Dimension reduction, Data Compression, High-Dimensional Statistics,  Convex Geometry, Discrete and Continuous Optimization, Matrix Factorizations, Non-asymptotic Random Matrix Theory, Applications in the Life Sciences.

Tentative syllabus for my class "Optimization for Statistical Modeling" (STAT 689) in Fall 2018.
