Metallic structure is the Giant Metallic Lattice - a regular arrangement of positive ions surrounded by a sea of delocalised electrons (from the outer shell of the metal atoms). All physical properties - melting point, conduction of heat, conduction of electricity - flow logically from this structure.
The positive ions are held together in the lattice by the force of electrostatic attraction between the ions and the delocalised electrons.
General Properties of Metals
1) They are good conductors of electricity
2) They are good conductors of heat
3) They have high melting and boiling points
