Dynamic Shear Band Evolution in an Elastic- viscoplastic Softening Solid with an inhomogeneity at the center of the domain

In this problem, an elastic-viscoplastic softening solid is compressed as shown in the figure below.

The inhomogeneity is introduced by reducing the yield stress at the center of the domain by a fraction (see Needleman, 1989).

The softening stress strain law obeyed by the material is shown in red in the figure below. The curves in black and blue in the same figure are the stress - strain paths followed by a typical material point inside and outside the shearband.
