HELP PROTECT AND MAINTAIN OUR LOCAL PATH NETWORK

MUIRHEAD BIRKHILL DRONLEY LIFF AUCHTERHOUSE PIPERDAM FOWLIS AND SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES

For over 20 years, the members of Sidlaw Path Network have provided and maintained a network of walking and recreational routes connecting our villages, countryside, woodlands and neighbouring communities.

These routes are enjoyed by residents of all ages, including walkers, families, cyclists, dog owners, horse riders and others seeking access to our beautiful local countryside,

They contribute to community wellbeing, encourage healthy lifestyles, support local wildlife and preserve important links between our villages.

OUR LOCAL PATH NETWORK INCLUDES:

The Dronley Railway Path – a popular route following the former Dundee-Newtyle Railway

The historic Drovers’ Road – an important part of our rural heritage

Backmuir Wood and surrounding paths – providing opportunities for recreation and access to nature

Blairfield Road and Templeton Woods connections – linking residential communities with green spaces

Check Bar Road and the Piperdam paths – offering access to the countryside and neighbouring settlements. Popular with visitors

The Green Space Walk – a safe route to Birkhill Primary School

Other connecting routes – helping create a joined-up network of local paths and access to amenities

WHAT IS AT STAKE?

The paths we enjoy today are the result of years of community effort and cooperation. But we must not assume that someone else will always be available to look after them. Maintaining them requires continued commitment, regular attention, sufficient resources and willing volunteers.

Hence we are URGENTLY APPEALING to residents, community groups, local businesses and everyone who values our countryside to help safeguard this network for this and future generations. Whether you regularly use these paths or simply value their availability, your support matters. PLEASE GET INVOLVED NOW!

You can make a difference by:

1.       JOINING WORK PARTIES

Potential problems include overgrown vegetation; damaged surfaces, steps [Gates – do we have any gates??]and signs; drainage problems and erosion

2.       REPORTING PATH PROBLEMS

Tell us about overgrown sections, obstructions, damaged signs, drainage issues or routes that are becoming difficult to access

3.      MAINTAINING THE NETWORK

Help identify important local routes and ‘missing links’, raise awareness of access concerns and support efforts to maintain existing connections and extend the network for community use

4.       OFFERING SKILLS OR EQUIPMENT

Practical skills, tools, materials, transport, administrative assistance, including contact with Angus Council, [see my email] and help with fundraising could all make a valuable contribution.

5.       SPREADING THE WORD

Encourage neighbours, friends, community organisations and local representatives to support the retention and maintenance of our paths - and to use them!
