If, for any reason, Show (or any other Docs Add-on, or any mistake of yours) has altered your document, two methods are available to revert it back to its former state:
Undo command (from the Edit menu, or Ctrl-Z / Cmd-Z on Mac) is available for as long as you don't close your document.
This means that in case of any problem with how Show highlighted your invisible characters, you have the possibility to simply press Ctrl-Z and undo the changes.
You can press Ctrl-Z as many times as you want in order to go back through a series of changes, while Ctrl-Y (redo) will move you forward in the change history.
If it seems too late because you already closed your document, no worries : Version Control is your best friend.
Located in the File Menu, the Version History option allows you to review earlier versions of your document, and revert to this version if needed.
