Art and Invention

Samuel Morse - One of the major contributors to the development of the telegraph was also a noted painter. His 1833 painting of miniatures found in the Louvre was an effort to develop a traveling exhibit to promote art appreciation. Note Mona Lisa in bottom center of painting. Public response to the painting was not great and he ceased painting shortly thereafter.Three years later he was granted a patent for the telegraph. https://www.nga.gov/exhibitions/morseinfo.shtm
