Welcomexxx

Welcome to Shipping Seine, my modest (for the moment more than modest!) collection of ship photos taken in and around the port of Rouen, France. In time I hope to include other bits and pieces concerning the port and its environs and the thing links everything together: the River Seine.

04/04/2010 - Modifications and new additions this week:

The list in the sidebar was getting a bit long so I've replaced it by a pictorial index. Having added a Latest Additions section in the sidebar it's perhaps not necessary to repeat the names here. There is however one ship seen this week that I can't resist mentioning: the Muammer Yagci, a pretty little Turkish cargo ship seen at La Bouille outbound to Oran. At 75m smaller than many inland waterway vessels, with pleasant lines she has characteristics harking back to another era: holds worked by derricks and a motor with a delightfully slow 3 note chug chug chug rhythm.

26/03/2010 - New additions this week:

Just 2 new ships this week: in rather hazy conditions the Britta Maersk going downstream to Rotterdam and the next day in even worse weather the Atlantic Arrow loaded with grain for Rio Grande.

19/03/2010 - New additions this week:

With 6 new additions this week the site is growing apace. (Perhaps I exagerate a little but it's my site and I'll say what I want, so there). Seen at Moulineux the boxy Carolina going downstream to Rotterdam, a second Clipper Group ship, the Clipper Morning arriving from Damietta; the Emma, outbound after delivering a cargo of Wind turbines; the Pretty Lady arriving from Karstoe; the Skagen arriving from Aviles and a frequent visitor to Rouen, the Sturgeon arriving from Coryton.

14/03/2010 - New additions this week:

For me, capturing a ship on film (or rather pixels) is very much a matter of chance. If the weather is poor or if ships don't pass by during my lunch hour then no pictures! Returning to my office Tuesday morning, taking a detour alongside the Seine, I chanced upon the Infinite Wisdom being towed upstream crossing the bulk carrier Louisa Bolten changing berth assisted by the tugs Bon Secours VII and Capitaine Albert Ruault. Unfortunately I was unable to do justice to the Infinite Wisdom, to my eye a very pretty an well proportioned vessel. I was able to catch the Louisa Bolten again the next day outbound for Venezuela. Another vessel seen this week is a frequent visitor to Rouen, the Stolt Egret, going downstream to the estuary for orders.

09/03/2010 - New additions this week:

Actually last week - after a bumper crop (for me at least) of ships I simply haven't had time to put them on line. Among the vessels this week is the Aristote, another Cochrane built ship, a near sister to the Helen; Berum, going down river to load at Le Havre; Cindia, arriving from Immingham; the prettily painted Hunzeborg going downstream to Rotterdam; Paul E, a regular visitor to Rouen arriving from Teesport; the smart Maersk Harmony and Pyrgos leaving for Ghent.

28/02/2010 - Events this month:

Just about everything ! After a bit of experimentation the layout and appearance of the site is more or less satisfactory despite the limits imposed by Google Sites (not that I'm complaining - a webspace of 100 Mo absolutely free is simply marvellous). Thank you Google!

15 ships (yes 15!) have been added, perhaps not quite enough to frighten the shipspotting.coms or marine-marchande.nets of this world but then everyone has to start somewhere...
