Hello, I'm the head of Rakuten Institute of Technology (RIT) Boston at Rakuten USA, Inc. Rakuten is one of the e-commerce giants in Japan, and RIT is the R&D department. Since I joined Rakuten in 2011, I have been developing NLP techniques for the e-commerce domain, such as sentiment analysis, product attribute extraction, item-product matching, semantic search, LLMs etc. I received my Ph.D. degree in Information Science from Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology in 2006.

2024/03: Our technical report "RakutenAI-7B: Extending Large Language Models for Japanese" has been available on arXiv!
2023/10: Our paper "Does Named Entity Recognition Truly Not Scale Up to Real-world Product Attribute Extraction?" has been accepted to EMNLP Industry Track 2023! This work is the result of the joint research with Associate Professor Naoki Yoshinaga from the University of Tokyo.
2023/05: Our paper "A Unified Generative Approach to Product Attribute-Value Identification" has been accepted to the Findings of ACL2023! This work is the result of the joint research with Associate Professor Naoki Yoshinaga from the University of Tokyo.
2022/10: I presented our ACL 2022 work at NLP Colloquium!
2022/09: Our paper "Cross-Encoder Data Annotation for Bi-Encoder Based Product Matching" has been accepted to EMNLP Industry Track 2022!
2022/04: Our paper "Extreme Multi-Label Classification with Label Masking for Product Attribute Value Extraction" has been accepted to ECNLP 5 co-located with ACL 2022!
2022/03: Our paper "Simple and Effective Knowledge-Driven Query Expansion for QA-Based Product Attribute Extraction" has been accepted to ACL 2022! This work is the result of the joint research with Associate Professor Naoki Yoshinaga from the University of Tokyo.
