Shimeng Liu is an Associate professor (with tenure) at the Institute for Economic and Social Research (IESR), Jinan University in Guangzhou, China. He received his Ph.D. in Economics from Syracuse University in 2014. He was a Research Fellow at the Lusk Center for Real Estate, Sol Price School of Public Policy, University of Southern California from 2014 to 2016. His research interests are in Urban and Regional Development, Chinese Real Estate, and Labor Economics. His work has appeared in many leading journals including the Journal of Urban Economics, Regional Science and Urban Economics, Journal of Economic Geography, China Economic Review, and Journal of Regional Science. He has received a Homer Hoyt Institute Best Paper Award, two GCREC Best Paper Awards, and several fellowships and research grants, including two NSFC grants and the Outstanding Youth Fund from the Guangdong Natural Science Foundation. He has been regularly interviewed by the media, such as the Xinhua News Agency, Guangming Daily, and Nan Fang Daily.
