SHERIFF'S OFFICE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

DIRECTORATE FOR ENHANCING KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

"The Paradigm Shift"

Thomas Kuhn

The Sheriff's Office Professional Development (SOPD) strives to enhance the knowledge, skills and abilities of its personnel for the purpose of establishing the necessary organizational framework in order to develop the next generation of competent and committed leaders. Deputies develop as leaders throughout their career through progressive and sequential processes.  These processes incorporate training, education, and experience across three learning domains; Institutional, Operational, and Self-Development.

As defined by the word "Profession" we strive to maintain a progressive movement forward which enables the Sheriff's Office the ability to police within its own organization while providing an effective and efficient service.  This professional development grounds the Sheriff’s Office in habits of discipline that will forge the trust of the public and continue a lifelong partnership in pursuit of a better quality of life.  For further illustration of development, please refer to GTA 11-Leader Development Model and GTA 15-Commissioned Professional Development Model.
