In honor of Brittany Chieze, twelve teachers entertained the community byparticipating in the Dancing with the Stars: Staff Edition on February 25th, 2011. All ofthe proceeds from the event went to the Make-A-Wish Foundation so that other deservingchildren, like Brittany Chieze, could have their wishes come true! Brittany previouslytook a trip to Disney World with her family through the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Shenango’s Peer Leadership, their advisor Mrs. Kimberly Rudesill, and theirChairperson Leah Cozza spent many hours organizing this unforgettable evening. Mr.Bill McNees comically hosted the event, and Lorie Pezzano, Marty Bogden, MargieRapp, Brittany Chieze, and Kalysta Greer all put in their two-cents as judges! The show opened with Mr. Cooper, a high school history teacher, and Mrs.Rudesill, a high school special education teacher, performing an action packed swingdance to “Jump, Jive, and Wail” by The Brian Setzer Orchestra. The couple not onlydanced in that old-fashioned quick step that is swing, but they also threw in flip after flip!
Each flip they nailed perfectly, and the crowd erupted into applause. The song selection
was ideal for their movement: fast, sharp, and gravity defying. While watching their
performance, you couldn’t help but smile and cheer. These two teachers danced, flipped,
and put on a wonderful show for both the audience and the cause.
Second, Dr. Schreck, Shenango’s Assistant Superintendent, and Mrs.
M ontgomery, an elementary school teacher, danced a lovely waltz to “The SleepingBeauty Waltz” by Tchaikovsky. The pair glided elegantly across the stage. Their attire was perfect for the ensemble: sophisticated, classy, and definitely stunning. The waltzwas smooth and chic, and the dancers performed it with great harmony. Each twist, lift, and step was graceful, and the audience was unquestionably entertained. They left thestage with a high score from the judges (a 29 out of 30), and rightfully so! Third, Mr. Chapman, a high school science teacher, and Mrs. Marmo, a highschool home economics teacher, danced a slick cha cha to “Shoop, Shoop” by Cher.Chapman and Marmo lit up the stage with their quick movements and fun dance moves. It was hard not to smile while watching this energetic couple. Mr. Chapman’s fluidmovements were impressive, and Mrs. Marmo’s sassy attitude added even more to theirdance. Also, who could forget their outfits? Chapman and Marmo looked like they hadstepped right out of Grease! This perfect duo truly danced their hearts out for a worthycause! Fourth, Mr. Heath, Shenango’s Technology Director, and Mrs. Cleaver, a Reading
Specialist, danced a red-hot tango to “Santa Marie del Buen Ayre” by Gotan Project.
Their red outfits really captured the heat of the music they were dancing to that night.
Lifts and smooth motions were incorporated into this tango. They looked superb. Who
knew these two had such graceful moves? These two also got the audience smiling when
Mr. Heath did a little break dancing, and Mrs. Cleaver danced with a black lace fan. Mr.
Heath and Mrs. Cleaver truly gave a tremendous performance for Dancing with the Staff,
and everyone applauded at their ending pose. Mr. Heath clenched a rose between his
teeth!
Fifth, Mr. Dorsch, a high school science teacher, and Ms. Gennock, a high schoolmath teacher, danced a crowd-pleasing cha cha to “Please Don’t Stop the Music” by Rihanna. Ms. Gennock wore a flapper-style black dress, and Mr. Dorsch, her fun partner, dressed as a disc-jockey in a club. Their dance was upbeat and kept the crowd shoutingand clapping throughout the whole thing! The choreography was by no means simple;it was really hard-core! They had to be out of breath by the end. They did some crazylifts, and they never stopped moving. There was no doubt; these two worked hard for theshow! Last, Mr. Vecenie, a high school chemistry teacher, and Mrs. Barron, a highschool English teacher, performed a salsa to “I Love Salsa” by N’Klabe. The stage wasset up as if it were the end of a long school day, and the couple showed off their awesomeprops, which included two easels saying “We Love Brittany.” Their choreographywas extremely tough. It included many flips and lifts. Their dance also showed a lot ofenthusiasm and was a huge crowd pleaser! It was a great way to end the night of dancing. After all the dancing was over, the judges picked three couples as the first placewinners. These couples included: Dr. Schreck and Mrs. Montgomery, Mr. Dorsch andMs. Gennock, and Mrs. Barron and Mr. Vecenie. Due to the tie, the guest of honor,Brittany Chieze, chose the judge’s winner. She chose Mr. Vecenie and Mrs. Barron as thefirst place winners. The audience also chose a winner. The majority of the audience, which totaled
almost 900 people, chose Mr. Dorsch and Ms. Gennock as their favorite. Then, Brittany
was presented with flowers. Purple and silver balloons fell onto the stage while one of her
favorite songs, “Firework” by Katy Perry, played. It was a beautiful moment for all who
attended. The night was a huge success, and Peer Leadership raised over $4,500 for the
Make-A-Wish Foundation. Peer Leadership and the Chieze family would like to extend
their thanks for the wonderful outpouring of support.
