Introduction
Shawn was born in 1966 and is a self taught artist and leather worker who transformed his life through his faith in Christ and the healing principles contained in the Bible. A couple dozen years into a sentence of 'life without parole' Shawn spends his time trying to be a positive influence in this environment as he serves others through the love of Christ and his passion for the arts, crafting leather and to comfort for those in need. Shawn is also a father and grandfather who has dreams of a chance to rejoin society where he can teach art and leather craft to instill self worth and esteem as he uses his life's story to mentor and help others avoid a path of drug use and criminality that leads to death or a life reduced to the size of a prison cell. Shawn's life partner is Jesus Christ and he has devoted his life to the Lord despite his circumstances. It is Shawn's goal to focus on successful reentry to normal life someday, and to help the struggling marginalized people of society.

In early 2015, Shawn was notified by a national leather workers trade magazine that he had won a prestigious award for his leather work. Below is the page SHOP TALK dedicated to his accomplishment. This is from their March 2015 issue.....
While Shawn primarily works with leather and pen, he also does a variety of things around the prison to help others. An example of this is a plaque Shawn made for a dear friend who suffered a severe accident, and was in recovery when the memento was presented to him. This event was captured by a video clip that shows how Shawn brings happiness to those who appreciate his workmanship.
The plaque that made Bill Pyle so happy!
Another example of Shawn's compassion for those who have suffered immense losses. This memorial he worked on for a previous OSP Superintendent, Michael Francke, who was highly respected at the prison.

Not only does Shawn help grow 'tons' of vegetables each year, he also volunteers for a variety of jobs that include cleaning and charitable events. Beyond that, Shawn also uses his creative talents to ease the pain of those who suffer, as is shown below.
The above photo is a fellow whose sister, Mary Jane, was brutally murdered years ago and he had her image tattooed to his chest. Shawn was moved to create a memorial plaque in her memory.

In addition to the many acts of compassion that Shawn has shown to those in need of comfort from the distress of losing a loved one, he has also contributed many gifts of his artistic and leatherworking talents to those who promote and encourage good works in the community. An example of his generosity can be seen in the above photo of a local politician who is holding one such plaque.
