Labor Day Regatta Results!
Post date: Sep 8, 2015 1:36:48 AM
We had a beautiful day for our 2015 Labor Day Regatta. The winds started out promising, but it shifted to the west, making the leg to the gybe mark slow going, indeed. Races 2, 3, and 4 were changed to windward-leeward courses where there was more wind. As the afternoon settled in, the breeze allowed us to run the final race as a port triangle. By getting in 5 races, it allowed for one throw-out race, which is indicated by the parentheses in the results below.

The racing was very competitive, but Gary and Sally were in fine form with four 1st place finishes. Andre & Sasha had a tough first race, but after that they hit their stride and consistently placed 2nd. Harry Flad & Steve Kovacs took 3rd place, with one 2nd place finish, two 3rds, and a 4th. Joe and Wendell in the Flying Scott had several good races with one 3rd place finish, but could not overcome their boat's handicap rating. Reg Jones and Donna Bowie finished in 5th place (one point behind the Flying Scott) with a strong 3rd place finish in the final race. Richard Balagur had some nice races, including a hard-fought downwind leg toward the gybe mark in the final race of the series. Beth Dingman and Aaron Lamperti, along with Zea and Sage had a good first and fourth races.

The Labor Day Regatta was a great final event for the season, followed by an epic potluck picnic after the racing. Special thanks to Betty Ann Heistad and Per Heistad for organizing and grilling the hot dogs, burgers, and portabello mushrooms, and to all the great salads and treats that everyone contributed. Thanks!!!
