ABOUT ME

I am an evolutionary microbiologist and am currently working as a postdoctoral researcher at Purdue University. My research explores how eukaryotic cells evolve and function, with a focus on microbial eukaryotes, mitochondrial biology, symbiosis, and genome evolution.

By integrating experimental and computational approaches—including single-cell transcriptomics, phylogenomics, quantitative proteomics, microscopy, and bioinformatics—I seek to uncover the mechanisms that drive cellular complexity and adaptation.

Prior to Purdue, I held research positions at The Ohio State University, Smith College, and the University of Ulsan, South Korea.

I am also committed to teaching, mentoring, and inspiring future scientists through research and education.

RECENT UPDATES

July 28, 2026 — Our recent research on aquatic disease ecology was presented at the ESA 2026 Annual Meeting. Salt Lake City, Utah. Title: "Wide temporal distribution of host habitat use amplifies seasonal disease risk."

June 4, 2026 — Presented my recent research work at the 11th Annual Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Biomolecular Galaxy (HG2BG) Symposium at Purdue University. Title: "Mitochondrial Resource Allocation Across Diverse Nutrient Conditions."

May 28, 2026 — Our article, "Evolutionary Assembly of a Unique Purple-Green Photosymbiosis Revealed by Expanded Ciliate Diversity," accepted in The ISME Journal. Here is the journal link.

April 22, 2026 — Served as a judge for the poster session at the Office of Interdisciplinary Graduate Programs (OIGP) Spring Reception 2026, Purdue University, USA.

April 2, 2026 — Attended the Universal Design for Learning and Student-Centered Teaching workshop at Purdue University.

April 1, 2026 — Delivered an invited talk in the EEB Seminar Series at Purdue University. Title: "Utilizing Single-Cell RNA Sequencing to Illuminate Cryptic Species Diversity and Phylogeny in Microbial Eukaryotes."

March 1, 2026 — After three years in the ECSO Lab, I transitioned to Dr. Catherine Searle's lab as a Postdoctoral Researcher. My current research focuses on host competence and the characterization of biodiversity–disease relationships.
