Not all the reference books have to be read to understand the target topic. However, I strongly recommend any student to read more and more as much as possible.
The Information Engineering Methodology file provides a robust idea about what Information Engineering is. By any means, none expects any student to memorize without understanding. Student should be able to express the gained understanding by any way at the assessment time.
