If you are interested in graduate school or have advisees that are interested in graduate programs in mathematics or statistics, you'll find some links below. I am a graduate of the Post-Baccalaureate Program at Smith and I am a 2016 EDGE mentor!
Center for Women in Mathematics
If you had a light math major or a math minor and are interested in graduate school, do consider applying to the Post-Baccalaureate Program at Smith College. This is a one-year intensive bridge program in which students take courses at Smith or any college in the Five-College Consortium, join (potentially distinct) research projects for two semesters, work as a teaching assistant, and network with mathematicians/statisticians.
Enhancing Diversity in Graduate Education (EDGE)
If you know you are going to graduate school in mathematics or statistics for the upcoming academic year, also consider applying to the EDGE program. This is an intensive four-week summer bridge program. In addition to intensive coursework in a variety of subject areas, participants in the program attend the EDGE conference and join a network of women mathematicians in academia, business, government, and industry.
Am I eligible for these programs?
Graduate school is challenging for everyone. For those in an underrepresented group, graduate school might be an incredibly isolating experience. The post-bacc program and the EDGE program not only provide women bridge programs to become better prepared graduate students, they also provide crucial and valuable support networks for when things get hard.
If you think you remotely qualify for these programs, I encourage you to apply. Do not self-select and exclude yourself from positive and life-changing programs!
If you have any questions about either program, please feel free to reach out to me. I am happy to talk to you about my experiences with each program and the impact it's made on my career. If my background and experiences don't quite match up with what yours, I can help direct you to another friendly person in one of these communities that might be able to help.
If you're reading this page and you are making those sweet post-PhD bucks, do consider donating to the EDGE program. Your contribution will support a vital program!
