Welcome to My Blog
I've decided to start a quick blog, mostly related to my experience and perspective on academia.
Why do a blog?
To me, it's a good way to channel my thoughts into writing. Knowing that likely very few people will see this, it may be more like a journal than anything, but I do think I have thoughts, ideas, and perspectives that could help academics, especially those who are earlier in their careers, or in similar situations.
I could post on social media, but I'm not a huge fan of Twitter or other platforms, mainly because they are limiting, hard to edit, and other reasons.
What will I write about?
I mostly will write about my thoughts about academia, teaching, research, from my own personal perspective as a psychology faculty at a liberal arts college, struggling work-like balance with a small child. If there are topics you'd like to see me write about, send me a message.
How often will I write?
I'm not sure... I've had lots of thoughts stewing that I want to get down, but no time. There is so little incentive in academia to write something like this. It's work, but it's also not 'promotable', so any time left not preparing classes, teaching, or caregiving is given to personal time. However, I do think that there might be something valuable to journaling my thoughts about academia. During 'slower' times like the summer, I might write more, or it may be abandoned; we'll see.
Other Disclaimers
This is my professional website, but the views are mine. I believe in academic freedom, and that I should be allowed to post my views freely, but the climate we live in can feel dangerous, even if you have tenure. I also may make claims without bothering to find the appropriate citation (apologies in advance), or fail to properly proofread and edit what I write, so there may be typos, awkward sentences, and other things that do not seem professional. Please feel free to reach out if there is something glaringly awful.
