Teaching

Summary: I have experience in teaching introductory and upper-level Finance and Economics classes. Besides traditional classes, I have also taught large sections (up to 220 students), blended, and online classes. I also have experience in incorporating Bloomberg terminals, Capital IQ platform, and Telemet into finance and economics curricula and  and launching courses with online program management (OPM).

My teaching evaluations reflect my commitment to excel in teaching and in furthering professional development of my students. My students complimented me for quality of teaching, course design built around practical applications of the course material, engagement with students, passion for students’ learning and growth, accessibility, availability to help, and work ethic.

Below is a sample of my students' comments on my teaching:

University of Illinois Springfield:

Professor Karadas is an exceptional teacher and human being. I have greatly enjoyed this course. The use of handouts, additional short video explanations, and guest speakers were assets to the learning process. I feel as though they were necessary due to the short 8 weeks we had to learn everything. I do also wish that the course was long and we could have met on campus. Overall, I would happily take any course he would teach regardless of the subject. He has wonderful development points for UIS that I believe will make a great change to not only UIS but our community as well.

I really enjoyed this professor as it was apparent that the students and learning was his top priority. He truly sent out numerous surveys during the entire semester asking for genuine feedback on how things were going in the course. What was more impressive was not only that he listened to feedback, but went ahead and implemented changes as well. He presented the material well and truly helped me become more excited in the stock market. I really enjoyed the market watch project we had to do and thought his course was informative as I learned a lot. I think this was my new favorite class during the program and Dr. Karadas is now one of my favorite professors. Also one more thing, I am very impressed that he is forming the Stock club or something. I wish that this program had this sooner.

Instructor is committed to providing resources for his students that will help them in their professional life down the road. I also the appreciate the passion for finance and economics. Teacher is also good at lecturing and giving real world examples

Dr. Karadas is an excellent instructor with thorough video lectures and notes. There was zero issue with this course being online because he was available for extra instruction and was willing to explain concepts in more detail via email.

This was a great class for my first class in the program. I learned a lot and want to continue my learning because of this professor.

By far the most organized, professional class I've taken at UIS. I really appreciated all the clear communication and abundance of learning opportunities.

I really enjoyed the excel presentations. I have been able to apply these teachings in everyday life which has increased my productivity in work. Overall, this has been one of the best classes I have taken. Thank you.

Fantastic instructor! Very responsive and open to suggestions/feedback. Class is well structured and predictable which is important in an online environment.

The instructor was exceptional in many ways, e.g., in the step-by-step videos, replying to emails, and giving feedback. I enjoyed this class!

Sewanee: The University of the South

Professor Karadas is one of my favorite teachers here at Sewanee. He is so understanding and truly wants everyone in the class to excell. He explains material very well and provides us with plenty of practice problems to do on our own if we are still not understanding the material. He is always available for extra help and is so helpful when you meet one on one. Karadas is one of my only professors that will actually explain step by step things for me. He isn't vague and doesn't try to shoo me off when I've stayed for longer than expected. Instead, Karadas is so incredibly patient and encouraging during office hours and I really appreciate that. In class, Karadas makes the learning environment very comfortable. I would never be afraid to get an answer wrong in class because he would be very respectful about it and try to help you figure it out. I would love a chance to take another class with Karadas if he is offering more in the future!

Dr. Karadas is extremely passionate about his field. Further, he cares greatly about each individual student. While he asks a lot of the class, the effort is mutual. He genuinely wants to see that students are learning and enjoying the material. He is always able to give knowledgeable answers to questions and normally will give a real world application of the concept. Dr. Karadas is one of Sewanee's most valuable professors, and I do not say that lightly.

Professor Karadas's is always prepared and I have never felt lost in class. He explains things through thoroughly and gives us examples both intuitively and mathematically that are challenging yet engaging. I feel accomplished when I have completed the work. He also makes jokes and tells stories that ALWAYS relate back to the subject material so my 9 o'clock class is enjoyable. He is always available to answer questions through email and during office hours. He is just overall a great professor and although this course was so hard, it was definitely my favorite. All the techniques that he uses in class is great. You can obviously tell he cares and is passionate about the subject matter.

Makes complex ideas simple to understand and demonstated the usefulness of course materials in real world situations

Professor Karadas is extremely well organized and provides lot of opportunities for students to practice the information that we have learned in class. I really like the worksheets that were provided each class to take notes on. At times the pace was a little slow but that could because I learned some of the information in money and banking. Overall I really liked Professor Karadas's teaching style!

Dr. Karadas has a commitment to his students and a work ethic that is rare and his teaching style lets every student know that he cares and that he wants them to succeed. He is one of the best professors I have ever had and I have very little to critique him. One small suggestion would be for him to incoporate more collaborative learning opportunities in class.

Always organized. Works incredibly hard. Is very clear in instruction. Brings pleasant sense of humor to class.

Extremely organized, intelligent, and receptive of students. Very understanding when it comes to addressing the varied level of knowledge of students and does an incredible job all around.

Professor Karadas has been the best professor I have had at Sewanee thus far. From his style of teaching and preparation it is easy to tell how much he cares about his students and is always available for outside help. He is very understanding, comical and creates an environment where students show up and learn out of respect for him no matter their interest level in the course. He gives lots of real life examples as well as sample interview questions that help with thinking about future jobs.

Dr. Karadas is the best professor that I have ever had, and his passion for the course material is unmatched among Sewanee professors. He genuinely wants his students to understand the material and grow as young professionals, and he dedicates significant time and effort to achieving these goals. I have never felt as stimulated, motivated, and supported in any class that I have taken at Sewanee, and I cannot thank Dr. Karadas enough.

Dr. Karadas is amazing! He is one of the best professors I have had at Sewanee. He is well-prepared and organized, but what I appreciated even more those characteristics, is his obvious investment in his students both within the classroom and their futures as well. Dr. Karadas is the only professor who has taken the time to discuss the jobs that one would be prepared for after taking this class and tailoring the course material to best prepare students to get those jobs.

Dr. Karadas is the best teacher the econ department has. He is the most devoted teacher to his work that I have ever seen. He has a true love for finance and it shows in his teaching. He prepares every class by making a handout for notes which helps students know exactly what they need to write down and study for when it comes time to take a test. His devotion to finance helps engage students and makes it a fantastic learning environment. The econ department needs to give him a raise or something because he puts in by far the most work I have ever seen from a teacher and it is because of him that I am pursuing finance as a career after graduation. If you are reading this Dr. Karadas, thank you for everything you have done for me. I wouldn't be where I am today without your enthusiasm, guidance, and overall excellent teaching.
