Welcome to my personal website!
My name is Serkan Karadas, and I am an Associate Professor of Finance and PNC Professor in Banking & Finance in the College of Business and Management (CBM) at University of Illinois Springfield (UIS). I joined UIS in January 2021. Prior to joining UIS, I was a tenured faculty member (Associate Professor) in the Department of Economics and Finance at Sewanee: The University of the South.
At UIS, I taught 12 different courses across 39 sections. Primarily, I teach finance courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels in different modalities. I have experience incorporating Bloomberg terminals, Capital IQ, and Telement into my courses. I also have a very strong liberal arts background, having graduated from one (Beloit College) and having worked and earned tenure at another one (Sewanee). Also, I was awarded with 2024 Burks Oakley II Distinguished Online Teaching Award and 2024 CBM Teacher of the Year Award for my teaching.
At UIS, I produced 9 peer-reviewed publications (bring my total number of publications to 18). Overall, my research involves the examination of how politics and geography affect stock returns and economic decisions. Some of my research has been accepted by such journals as The Financial Review, International Review of Economics & Finance, International Review of Financial Analysis, Review of Financial Economics, Journal of Risk and Financial Management, and Journal of Economics and Finance and cited by press such as Reuters, the New York Times, the Atlantic and the Economist.
