Edition Statements in Colophons


In some Eastern European imprints, edition statements may be embedded in the colophon of a book. Thus, if an edition statement doesn’t appear on the title page or title page verso of a book, the cataloger should carefully check the colophon to see whether the edition statement is given there.

These statements can be recorded in the edition field of a bibliographic record, in accordance with RDA’s directives that the cataloger "transcribe an edition statement as it appears on the source of information" (RDA 2.5.1.4) or as it appears on "another source within the resource itself" (RDA 2.5.2.2b).
