About SLRF

The Second Language Research Forum (SLRF) is an internationally recognized conference which brings together researchers in second language acquisition (SLA) from all over the world. It is one of the premier conferences on SLA in North America providing a venue for established scholars and graduate students to present work on a wide variety of theoretical and empirical issues in SLA including cognitive, linguistic and sociolinguistic SLA research conducted in both laboratory and classroom settings.

There is no official central web site for SLRF, and each year's organizers host their own web site. Thus, this unofficial page serves only as a hub with links to each year's conference web site.

This year's host

After a hiatus from 2021-2024, SLRF will be returning in 2025, hosted by Northern Arizona University! The conference will be held September 25-28, 2025 at NAU in Flagstaff, AZ. The conference theme is "Elevating Perspectives: Reaching New Heights in L2 Research." Please see the conference web site for more information: https://sites.google.com/nau.edu/slrf2025. 

Past hosts

SLRF began in 1977 at the University of California, Los Angeles, and since then, has been hosted by various universities around the United States and Canada.  The below information was compiled by Dr. Yasuhiro Shirai and Dr. Ryan Miller (SLRF 2012 co-chair and maintainer of this site).
