This course introduces students to the world of engineering. Students will have the opportunity to explore fields of engineering and the design knowledge that goes into them. The course is designed to reinforce problem-solving, critical thinking, 3D modeling, and engineering career awareness. Students will use Solidworks, other 3D modeling programs, and machinery such as laser engravers and 3D printers to design, build, document, and test their solution to the given problem. Field trips and or guest speakers may be scheduled. Students will be challenged with problems, scenarios, and or tasks in the following areas: Prosthetics, Structural Design, Alternative Transportation, Mathematical Modeling, and Robotics. Student evaluation is based on class assignments, tests, and projects. It is highly recommended that all students taking the course were independently successful in Technical Drawing 1.
Why Take An Engineering Class?
Although engineering may not be for everyone, we all are engineers in our own lives. To what we are capable of being, is yet to be discovered. There is no doubt that our society and its' needs are changing. Ask yourself if you are willing to be that person that helps these needs or causes more? As a student in an engineering class, your cognitive state of mind will be challenged to change, progress, and solve new and unforeseen boundaries. Although you may not one day pursue an engineering degree, you will have the experience to be that help that our society is in need of.
