Coach Tony McCormick is a highly accomplished and respected coach at Space Coast Jr./Sr. High School, serving as the head coach for both the boys’ golf and wrestling teams. Now in his third season leading the golf program, Coach McCormick brings a championship mindset and a dedication to athlete development that has defined his career.

A lifelong wrestler, Coach McCormick began his journey in the sport at the age of 3, earning an incredible seven junior national titles. Between 7th and 12th grade, he competed in six state tournaments, amassing an outstanding 196 varsity wins. His high school career included two state championships, a second-place finish, and a third-place finish. Remarkably, Coach McCormick was undefeated in his junior and senior years, winning 73 consecutive matches. He went on to attend Edinboro University on a full wrestling scholarship, competing under the legendary Assistant Coach Bruce Baumgartner, a two-time Olympic gold medalist.

Coach McCormick’s coaching career began as an assistant coach at Merritt Island High School in 1987, where he helped produce two state champions in a single season. For the past 18 years, he has served as the head wrestling coach at Space Coast Jr./Sr. High School, building a program rooted in discipline, respect, and excellence.

In his role as golf coach, Coach McCormick applies the same philosophy that has made him successful in wrestling. He focuses on developing the complete student-athlete, emphasizing not only technical skills but also academic achievement, personal accountability, and teamwork. Coach McCormick expects his athletes to be class acts on the course, in the classroom, and in their daily lives. He fosters a culture of hard work, mutual respect, and team unity, ensuring that his players are prepared for every challenge they face.

Corey Jones

Associate Head Coach, 10th Season

Coach Corey Jones is entering his 10th season as an assistant wrestling coach at Space Coast Jr./Sr. High School, where he has been a steadfast presence in the program under Head Coach Tony McCormick. A dedicated and versatile coach, Corey brings a wealth of athletic experience and a passion for supporting student-athletes across all aspects of their development.

While Corey did not wrestle competitively, he was a three-sport athlete in high school, excelling in football and other sports, which gave him a deep understanding of teamwork, discipline, and the physical and mental demands of competition. In addition to his role with the wrestling team, Corey has also contributed to the success of the Space Coast junior varsity and varsity football teams as a coach, showcasing his ability to mentor and inspire athletes in various arenas.

Beyond coaching, Corey is a proud and active supporter of the entire SCHS community. Whether attending games, assisting with other athletic programs, or stepping in to help faculty and staff, Corey is a team player who is always ready to lend a hand. His commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive environment has made him a trusted mentor and role model for students, athletes, and colleagues alike.
