Note: this tool can't actually read the posts directly in Google Groups (because Google doesn't provide any API for that). You have to subscribe to the Group to receive all messages by email in a Gmail inbox and then you can activate this tool.
For example, we are using it to get advanced statistics on Google's own support forums, like Docs (docs@googleproductforums.com) and Sites (sites@googleproductforums.com)
To use this tool make a copy of this template.

Ask to receive all messages from this group by email
Make a copy of the spreadsheet template and click on the menu Forum Statistics > Get a Report
Enter your Group email address
Select the type of report you want (monthly report or custom time range)
Wait a bit and you will receive the report by email
