Crimes Against the Person
Summary: The crime is something we have become familiar with. But, what don’t we know about crime used in our country? We’ll now’s our chance to learn!! We will break into 4 groups to plan brief (5-7 minute) learning activity to share with the rest of us. Since we only have one day to cover the material we’ll need to use our time wisely.
Purpose: The purpose of this assignment is to share the knowledge you will gain from your reading and research of your topic with other students to enable them to learn something they did not study.
Audience: Your classmates eager to learn about your topic!
Form: Your learning activity must be at least 5 minutes in length but absolutely no longer than 7 minutes. The learning activity can be direct (PowerPoint, reading activity, video, text book activity or discussion) or indirect (worksheet, role-play, simulation, research). Also, the learning activity must include three (3) vocabulary words crucial to your topic and three (3) crucial statements (key information) in sentence form.
Procedure:
ü Plan – will you use direct or indirect instruction?
ü Research – read book, look up your topic on the internet and/or learn about your topic in other ways.
ü Lesson – Create a lesson that will be shared with the rest of the class. It should be interesting and informative. You will have 40 minutes to prepare a mini-lesson on one of the following topics:
Homicide
Suicide
Assault and Battery
Rape
ü Vocabulary – Include key vocabulary from your topic (at least 3 words)
ü Critical Information – Include information essential to understanding your topic (at least three main points)
Focus Correction Areas (FCA’s):
(9 points) Three pieces of Critical Information Shared–Write three sentences containing key information of your section that clearly explain your topic.
(9 points) Vocabulary Shared- List and define at least three words that are crucial to understanding your topic).
(10 points) Lesson – your learning activity was on time (5 – 7 minutes).
