About

Scioto County Amateur Radio Emergency Services (A.R.E.S.) is an organization comprised of Amateur Radio Operators locally who have agreed to donate their services in times of crisis. The (A.R.E.S.) organization is part of the framework of the Amateur Radio Relay League (A.R.R.L.) that provides emergency communication services to local government and emergency organizations.

The local organization is led by Scioto County ARES Emergency Coordinator Chris Kemper KB8IIH who is appointed by the Ohio ARRL leadership. There are three Scioto ARES Trustees that oversee the organization and it's services. They include Gary Stephenson; Danny Edwards and Jerry Swords. Larry Mullins is the Secretary/Treasurer. All coordinate group leadership.

Scioto ARES has a non interest bearing account open at a local bank for the purpose of accepting donations for the upkeep of the local ARES Network which was purchased with grant funds by Scioto County Emergency Management Agency (EMA).

The ARES repeaters are located on a tower owned by the Scioto County Engineer with a frequency of 145.45. A network is called every Monday night at 7:30 PM for ARES Organization members to check in weekly. The two meter net is on the 145.45 repeater with a PL tone 114.8. All Amateur Radio Operators are welcome.

An agreement for emergency communication services is in place with Scioto County EMA for providing radio services between agencies and facilities when activated by EMA.
