1 - Endangered plants

Due directly or indirectly to human activities, many South Carolina plant species have been extirpated or become extremely rare within the last two hundred years. The loss of plant biodiversity threatens all remaining species.

South Carolina Heritage Trust, a division of the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, maintains a list of rare and endangered plants and animals for the state. This list is currently under revision. Part of the ongoing re-evaluation, the attached spreadsheet scores plant taxa as to number of counties of occurrence, geographic distribution, native/introduced status, etc.
