Music Education:
I believe that music is not just reading notes on a page. Music is emotion that is felt within the soul, and it is the single language that unifies every human being in every part of the world. It brings a deeper understanding towards what is truly meaningful to each individual that encounters it, for music speaks what words cannot. As a Music Educator, I believe it is my personal responsibility to bring passion and personal meaning to the students I teach. I must guide them towards finding their own unique purpose in the world of music and help them find themselves as they journey into the world with lessons learned of not just music, but lessons learned of life as well.
I believe that my classroom should be a safe, welcoming environment where students feel cared for and confident in speaking their minds. I believe that it is important to emphasize the importance of providing a space for children to learn about themselves and grow as musicians and as people. As a music educator, I will promote open-mindedness, problem-solving skills, positivity, teamwork, and different ways of learning within the classroom. I believe that students need to be heard in order to grow and improve upon themselves. Therefore, I feel that it is important to allow the students to reflect and respond upon each other’s thoughts and opinions in addition to providing visual, auditory, and kinesthetic ways of learning in order to encompass each and every students’ needs.
It is my goal as a music educator to ensure a creative, equal, and inclusive environment for all students. I want each and every one of the students I encounter to feel confident in themselves and have love for each other, music from all different cultures, and a love for the future and the opportunities it can bring. Having faith in myself by having teachers in my past that uplifted me and made personal connections with me that have lasted a lifetime is something essential that has contributed to my success as a music educator. I believe it is my responsibility to carry that forward for those that are in the position I was in as an emerging individual musician years ago. I feel that it is important to teach every student about his or her individual voice and build off of their strengths to improve the weaknesses within their voice. As I carry forward into my career as a music educator, I plan to further my career through involving myself in the community as a musician, as a counselor, as a therapist, and as a person that has a love for music, for people, and for the power that music has to unite people around the world.
