I am Professor of Philosophy at New York University Abu Dhabi, where I moved several years ago from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. I am also the co-Editor in Chief of the Journal of Ethics and Social Philosophy.
I am broadly interested in questions about agency, epistemology, rationality, and normativity. I've written about self-knowledge, weakness of will and self-control, the nature of intention and its relationship to belief, and what we should believe about our own intentional actions, among other things.
My book Philosophy of Action: A Contemporary Introduction was published with Routledge Press in 2021. A new book titled Striving: The Agency and Epistemology of Uncertain Pursuits, co-authored with Jennifer Morton, is forthcoming with Oxford University Press in 2027.
