The Santa Clara Laurels started playing women's softball in 1966 as the Hayward Laurels. The Laurels moved to Santa Clara in 1967 becoming one of the nation's top teams until 1975 when the core of the team turned professionals as the San Jose Sunbirds. From 1969 to 1975, the Laurels played in 6 National Tournaments placing second in 1973 and 1975. The Laurels were led by National Softball Hall of Famer Diane Kalliam, arguably the greatest centerfielder to ever play the game, and Charlotte Graham, one of the nation’s top pitchers.  This is their story.
