Sanjith Gopalakrishnan

My research develops analytical and data-driven models to help organizations make better decisions at the intersection of operations, sustainability, and public policy. I am particularly interested in how firms can cooperate across organizational boundaries to address complex environmental and social challenges while improving operational performance.

A major focus of my work is on the decarbonization of logistics and supply chains. I study how firms can measure, allocate, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, with an emphasis on Scope 3 emissions. My recent research examines topics including emissions accounting, supply chain traceability, environmental attribute certificates, and sustainable tourism.

A second stream of my research examines coordination in retail logistics and operations. This work explores how firms can improve assortment, fulfillment, pricing, and logistics decisions through better coordination.

Beyond academia, I have collaborated with companies and organizations on projects involving data analytics, sustainability, and ESG reporting, including Best Buy Canada, Lululemon, Procurify, Partage Club, Volvo, and Lighthouse Labs. I have also served as Director of McGill University's Sustainable Growth Initiative, as a member of the Vancouver City Council Transportation Advisory Committee, and currently serve on the Board of Directors of Green Teams of Canada.

I joined McGill University's Desautels Faculty of Management in 2020. I received my Ph.D. in Operations Management from the University of British Columbia and previously completed my B.S. and M.S. in Physics at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras.
