Sanjith Gopalakrishnan
I am an Assistant Professor of Operations Management at the Desautels Faculty of Management, McGill University, since 2020. During 2024-25, I also serve as the Director of the Sustainable Growth Initiative, a cross-faculty partnership anchored at the Desautels Faculty of Management.
I obtained my PhD in Operations Management from the Sauder School of Business, University of British Columbia. Previously, I completed my B.S. and M.S. in Physics from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras.
My main research interests are in environmentally and socially sustainable supply chain management. My research is often motivated by domestic and global climate policies and their implications for business operations, especially in the context of measuring and reducing Scope 3 emissions. My research aims to design more effective policies and regulations that help achieve carbon reduction goals while minimizing unintended consequences. Theoretically, I am interested in the interplay of information, incentives, and fairness in multi-agent environments such as supply chain networks.
I have worked on data and sustainability projects for several companies, including Best Buy Canada, Lululemon, Procurify, Partage Club, Volvo and Lighthouse Labs. Additionally, my interests in urban sustainability have led me to serve on the Transportation Advisory Committee to the City of Vancouver as well as on the non-profit board for Green Teams of Canada.
