My current research interest includes Physics of biomembrane. Biological membranes are complex and regulated by various proteins, cholesterol and other bio-active molecules.Structure and functions of biological membranes are difficult to study in vivo. Therefore, it is often useful to study the model lipid membranes in order to get insights into the structure and functions of biomembranes.

Unilamellar vesicle, an enclosed bilayer shell, serves as an excellent model system of biological membrane. In one hand, large or small unilamellar phospholipid vesicles ( diameter ~ 50-100 nm), prepared from extrusion or sonication method are used to study the interaction small molecules such as various ions including alkali metal ions and amino acids with phospholipid membranes. On the other hand giant unilamellar vesicles (diameter ~ 10-50 micron), prepared from electroformation, are used to visualise under phase contrast or fluorescence microscopy.
