SALAPALOOZA
Salapalooza began in 1997 as an idea by Student Council member Scott Merrick under the direction of Salvatore Zarra. It was originally a picnic for the entire school as an extended lunch period. The menu consisted of Hotdogs, Soda, Water, Cookies and Watermelon. In 1998 the menu was expanded to include Ziti and Pizza. In 1999 Libby's Italian Ice made its appearance on the menu. In 2000 student bands began playing at this event. In 2001 at the suggestion of teacher Tom Webster, the event took on the name of Salapalooza and the ever popular T-Shirts became a staple of this event. In 2002 the teachers played the students in a softball game after this event in a best of three series. Since then the event has grown every year and is now recognized state wide as a popular school event. Salapalooza shirts are currently being worn internationally by proud recipients in Italy, Norway, Germany, Finland, England, Switzerland ,Scotland,Ireland and Slovakia.
After a 2 year hiatus 2014 and 2015, Salapalooza returned to BHS in 2016 and now features an inflatable obstacle course and performances by a faculty band.
