2025 Penalties
Feb. 19, 2025:
No. 19-Chase Briscoe Level L2 – Sections 14.1.C&D&S: Overall Assembled Vehicle Section 14.5.8.A: Spoiler Note: Modification of a single source supplied part.
Crew chief (James Small) has been suspended from the next four NASCAR Cup Series championship points events, through and including Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Team and driver have been assessed with the loss of 100 points and 10 NASCAR Playoff points. Additionally, the team has been fined $100,000.
**Update**: March 5, 2025: The National Motorsports Appeals Panel on Wednesday overturned the L2-level penalty levied against the Joe Gibbs Racing No. 19 team stemming from the season-opening race at Daytona International Speedway. In overturning the ruling, the three-member panel determined: “The panel believes that the elongation of some of the holes on the No. 19 Cup car spoiler base is caused by the process of attaching that specific spoiler base to the rear deck and not modification of the single source part.” Briscoe was initially docked 100 driver points and 10 playoff points. JGR was fined $100,000 and deducted 100 owner points, as well as 10 playoff points. Crew chief James Small was suspended for four races. All of that is rescinded following the appeal.
No. 34-Todd Gilliland Section 14.11.2.1.A: Ballast Containers Note: Any and all ballast added to the vehicle must be secured inside a ballast container(s).
Team assessed with the loss of 10 driver and owner points.
No. 51-Cody Ware Section 14.11.2.1.A: Ballast Containers Note: Any and all ballast added to the vehicle must be secured inside a ballast container(s).

March 5, 2025:
Early in Sunday’s race, Cindric contacted the right rear of Dillon’s No. 10 Kaulig Racing Chevrolet, sending Dillon spinning down the frontstretch. NASCAR deemed Cindric’s move to fall into the category of intentionally wrecking another vehicle under Sections 4.4 B&D: NASCAR Member Code of Conduct Penalty Options and Guidelines. As a result, Cindric lost 50 driver points

May 15, 2025:
The No. 17 Ford was in violation of Sections 14.1.C (overall assembled vehicle rules) and 14.5.4.G (front bumper cover) of the NASCAR Rule Book. The team went over the maximum reinforcement allowed for its front bumper covers.
As a result, the team and driver Chris Buescher were each assessed with the loss of 60 championship points and five playoff points, and the team was fined $75,000. Additionally, crew chief Scott Graves has been suspended for the next two races through Charlotte.
May 28, 2025: UPDATE: Upon hearing the testimony, three members of the National Motorsports Appeals Panel ruled that the No. 17 team violated one or more, but not all, of the rules from the initial penalty. The team violated 14.5.4 (front bumper cover) but did not violate 14.1.2 (exhaust cover panel). Therefore, the panel amended the original penalty assessed by NASCAR to include a loss of 30 championship driver and team owner points (it was initially a 60-point loss), a loss of five driver and team owner playoff points, a two-race suspension for the crew chief and a $75,000 fine for the team.
