- speak up, delhi!

SPEAK UP, DELHI!

Living as we do in the ‘crime capital’ of the nation with its spiralling statistics on violence against women, the need to constantly address the issue is never quite put to rest. Outraged by the increasing incidents of rape, the lack of adequate response from the State machinery and the apathy of society and the media, led to start of a campaign known as “Speak up, Delhi! Stop Rape” also known as “Dilli Chuppi Todo! Hinsa Roko”, in 2003.

Several women’s organisations and concerned individuals joined us in doing a series of public demonstrations standing atop flyovers and overpasses with fluorescent banners urging Delhi’ites to speak up against violence faced by women. As part of this campaign we also distributed leaflets through traffic intersections and crowded bazaars all over the city.
