Purpose:
This Homepage came about to help reunite the former employees of Sackett and Peters (a hardware store located in Whittier, California that went out of business in 1993).
It has been over 20 years since S & P went out of business, and most of the former employees have lost contact with each other. There are still groups of employees who remain friends to this day and keep in contact.
If you wish to reunite with the old crew, please check out the website and send us an e-mail or attend one of our get togethers'.
History:
I, Patrick Castro, worked at Sackett and Peters from 1987-1990. I met a lot of great people and had a great time socializing with my fellow employees and listening to the stories people had to tell. It was one of the best jobs I ever had.
Well, I had lost touch with most of my fellow crew members until July of 2012 when I heard a name on the radio I had not heard in over 20 years. The name was Thaddeus J. McCormack and I said to myself “how many Thad McCormacks could there be in the world” and by the magic of the web I was able to locate and contact Thad.
So, back in August of 2012; I, my best friend Joe Mendez, Thad, Frank Picarella and Rick Kelly got together at Maggie’s Pub in Santa Fe Springs. We shared some stories from the good old days and caught up with what had happen in our lives and tried to piece together what happen to the S & P crew.
We got together in December of 2012 at Maggie’s with a goal of bringing someone new (in other words one of the old crew). I brought my brother Willie and we met Thad’s wife.
We met in March 2013 at Maggie's again and in August of 2013 at the Original Roadhouse Grill in Whittier (Former Sackett and Peters site), this time we brought our wives, Willie brought his girlfriend Jess, and Thad brought his son. We had fun talking and sharing stories.
On October 8th 2013 we again met at the Roadhouse. Robert King had contacted the website from Idaho and was in town. Brent Withy showed up along wtih Pat, Joe, Frank and his wife Lisa and Thad. We had a good time and pieced together where some of the lost crew ended up and caught up with what was going on in our lives now and shared a lot of old stories. Good times.
Well, Robert Horne was in town on the winter holiday break. Thad managed to bring together a small group of friends at the last minute on December 30, 2013 at Pizza Mania in Whittier. Robert Horne, Sheryl Moore, Pat, Frank and Lisa, Thad and his family were there. Brent Withy was going to show up later. I had to leave early. Rob is doing well in New Mexico teaching. He has not changed much. Still a scholar and a poet. It was good to see Rob and Sherly Moore. Sherly is still living in Sierra Modre and is friends with Robin Sackett. I wish I had more time to spend with Rob and the gang. But, I had to pick up the kids. There is still talk about doing a Grand get together sometime in the future. I hope things can work out with everyone's schedules. Oh! we are still trying to get in contact with Ed Keegan.
So, in 2014 we had a few more small get together's and on November 7, 2014 we asked for a big turn out at our next get together and we had are largest turn out yet (See News November 2014). With the help of Lori Snyder and Robin Sackett who helped spread the word on Facebook we all met at The Bootlegger in Fullerton. We shared some old stories and had a great time.
Fall of 2015 we had another get together at the Bootlegger. It was about the same as 2014 with a few more crew from the 70's.
2017 was the last get together I tried to organize. It was a flop, Only a few people showed up. There was a time mix up! I hope the next turn out will be better.
2019 We got together at Maggie's Pub. Joe, Robert , Thad, Scott Brown, Jeff Vaka, Suzi Moon and Shirley Moore showed up.
2022 I hosted a Tiki Dinner Party and had all 5 crew members over and their family members. We all had a good time and everyone is doing well.
2023 We had lunch with Andy Franz.
On 11/11/2023 I hosted a gathering at Bootleggers in Fullerton.
