My research focuses on reconstructing disturbance ecology and climate using paleolimnology. While I specialize in using fossil diatom assemblages to reconstruct past lake environments, I have an interest in a number of paleoecological proxies. I received a B.S. in Science Education and Earth/Environmental Science and an M.S. in Earth and Quaternary Science from Indiana State University. I received my Ph.D. in Earth & Atmospheric Science from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. I am an Assistant Professor at Defiance College, where I teach courses in the Environmental Science program. My goals in academia include using inquiry-based and innovative teaching methods, developing opportunities for student research, and conducting innovative research on environmental disturbances.
