About us

When active, the Group held field meetings in Ryedale and neighbouring areas of North and East Yorkshire, most of which related to specific projects in progress. Meetings included visits to Leavening and Acklam villages, Sheriff Hutton Castle, Hildenley Quarry, Slingsby village, Settrington House and village, Nunnington Hall, Duncombe Park, Helmsley Castle, Hovingham Hall and source quarries, Crayke Castle, Alne, Brandsby, Bilsdale and numerous churches. A buildings recording conference based in Malton was held jointly in May 2004 with the Yorkshire Vernacular Buildings Study Group.

Membership of the group was free, although all offers of help, knowledge or expertise were very welcome. Details of visits and reports were sent out via email or snail mail to interested individuals and other groups as well being posted on the website.
