This is the Website of Ryan Enns, a professional guitarist and music educator who lives in Yamba, NSW.
Biography
Ryan Enns grew up in Whitehorse Yukon, a place where music and storytelling are central to daily life. He left the Yukon at the age of 18 and moved to Vancouver where he completed his master’s degree in guitar performance from UBC in 2008. Ryan is truly an anomaly among classical guitarists because he is equally at home in the “folk” idiom as he is in the “classical” idiom. As a classical guitarist Ryan performs virtuosic guitar music from South America and Spain with all the technical fluidity and precision you would expect from a guitarist with his academic credentials, but with energy and character that you normally find in the Jam tent at a Folk fest. As a singer / songwriter, Ryan’s songs are just 3 chords and the truth about love, fatherhood and the Northern way of life. The common thread that unites his two sides is his ability to engage his audience and share his love of music. Mr. Enns currently lives with his wife and 2 year old son in Yamba, New South Wales
Background
Ryan’s background is as diverse as his musical range. Raised in Whitehorse from the age of two, Ryan began playing hymns on his electric guitar in church when he was thirteen. In Highschool he fronted a handful of punk, rock and blues bands such as “the nimrods” and “Astro boys revenge” and upon graduation he relocated to North Vancouver where he began his formal training in Classical guitar at Capilano College. In 2002 Ryan’s talents took him full circle; playing guitar in church again... only this time he was playing Bach in Cathedrals in Switzerland, Germany, Italy and Austria as part of a tour with the “Capilano Singers” choir. Since then Ryan has earned a Diploma of music from Capilano College as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Music (2005) and a Master’s degree in Classical guitar Performance (2008) from the University of British Columbia. During this period he has also worked as a principle voice with “Laudate Singers” and “the Chancel Choir” and as a member of some of Vancouver’s finest chamber ensembles including the Pacific Northwest guitar quartet and JNGQ. Currently Ryan lives in Yamba, NSW where he teaches and performs regularly.
