"What a huge questions to ask", you may think. But really, we all have an idea or interpretation of what it is. Mine goes like this: Science is seeking answers to the wonders around you. It ultimately comes down to continuous inquiry! It starts with an OBSERVATION--noticing things around your natural world. This can involve all the senses: sight, hearing, touch, taste, and (even) smell. Observation leads to a QUESTION. To answer this question, one must employ a series of tests--need I say it--THE SCIENTIFIC METHOD! Based on what you know already, you can make an educated guess as to why this phenomenon exists (hurray for HYPOTHESIS). Now comes time for testing your hypothesis. This is a time for creativity, careful planning and EXPERIMENTATION. After analyzing the RESULTS from the experiment, you can make your CONCLUSION from what is discovered. Just when you thought you were finished, another observation is made...and the cycle continues over and over! The funny thing about science, WE USE IT EVERY DAY!!!

Perhaps you are interested in getting more involved in science. There are places here in southern California where you can explore nature, learn about our local ecosystems, help actual scientists and make a difference in conservation efforts towards preserving nature. Here are a few website where you can do just that:
